Our Heritage & Mission
A Family Legacy Since 1885
The McMartin Herd traces its Shorthorn roots to , founded by Finlay McMartin in southeast Minnesota. The herd operated for generations near Claremont, Minnesota in Dodge County, most recently moving and consolidating operations near Dennison, Minnesota, in .
Today, the herd is run by Justin McMartin with guidance from Peter McMartin, continuing a family enterprise that has remained unbroken through generations. Finlay's descendants have continued Shorthorn breeding, showing cattle at regional fairs and maintaining registered cattle. The McMartin name has been associated with numerous prizewinning Shorthorn cattle across the decades.
Our Commitment
The McMartins remain dedicated to breeding exceptional cattle and advancing the Shorthorn breed. Our program is grounded in proven genetics, responsible husbandry, and long-term animal welfare—producing cattle that are productive, sound, and easy to manage.
